FOREST SCHOOL CO-OP
Forest Co-Op is designed to enhance the holistic homeschooling experience for children ages 6-12. This forest school style co-op introduces unique skills each semester, while also spending a large part of the day in hands-on nature study and outdoor play with other children.
100% of the children's time is spent learning outdoors. Most students attend 1-2 days per week. Traditional academics such as writing and math are not a focus at Valley Forest School.
Co-Op is from 9-2:30 and is a drop off program. Parents may choose which day(s) of the week work best upon enrollment. Co-Op is divided into two age groups: 6-younger 8 year olds, and older 8 year olds-12.
Nature study and forest exploration is a part of every co-op class. Nature study topics include plant identification, weather patterns, foraging, insect identification and observation, rock study, animal tracks, birding, flower identification, ecological biodiversity, and environmental stewardship.
Co-Op students also take field trips to local natural areas to study a large variety of local ecology. Field trips include hiking, bike riding, canoeing, rock climbing, and farm visits. Most field trips costs are included in tuition. A calendar of dates and locations is given to parents of students. Drop off and pick up is at the field trip location these weeks.
