CATAWBA, VA SUMMER CAMPS

June 5-June 8- Young Herbalist Camp

Time: 9 am- 2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $220

Young Herbalist Camp is for those who love using their creative side to make their own traditional remedies for basic ailments and general good health. Children will learn about the basics of using herbs for good health, foraging techniques, plant identification, the importance of knowing what herbs are safe, and get hands on through mixing and blending their own herbs, salves, bath salts, surface cleaners, teas, and more. At the end of the week, they'll bring home their own handmade set of herbal remedies- ready to naturally tackle common colds, bee stings, sunburns, and other minor ailments.

  

June 12-June 15- Survival Camp

Time: 9 am- 2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $210

Survival Camp is for those who thrive in the outdoors and want to expand their knowledge of how to survive in an outdoor setting. Children will learn how to build a shelter, use a compass and map, filter water, build a fire, forage for food, basic first aid, and many more practical skills. It's a balance of challenge, fun, and adventure. 

June 19- June 22- Cooks of the Forest Camp

Time: 9 am- 2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $225

Cooks of the Forest brings our your child's inner creative chef! Children's knowledge of cooking will be deepened as they learn how to cook over and fire and a camp stove and bake in coals. They'll mix, measure, chop, and stir up recipes as well as develop their own creations. All lunches are made by the children during this camp. See meals on the parent portal for details. 

June 26-June 29- Wildcraft Camp

Time: 9 am- 2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $230

Wildcraft Camp is for children who are interested in creating handcrafted useful objects for everyday use. Handicrafts included during camp include weaving, whittling/wood carving, candle making, leather crafting, and Native American tools.

July 3-July 6- Games of the Forest Camp

Time: 9 am-2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $200

Games of the forest is packed full of camp-style games that teach teamwork and cooperation. This is for the child who loves sports! Think along the lines of relay races, scavenger hunts, capture the flag, balloon baseball, water-based games, and many other games alongside camp friends both old and new. It's one of our highest adventure week! 

July 10-July 13- Fishing Camp

Time: 9 am- 3:30 pm

Location: Green Hill Park, Carvins Cove, Smith Mountain Lake

Ages: 8-12

Cost: $300

Fishing camp covers a variety of techniques and fishing styles at some of the best fishing spots in the Roanoke Valley. Campers will learn the basics of fishing and fishing safety. As they fly fish in the river, they'll learn proper technique, how to tie flies, and river safety. As they fish in the lake or pond, they'll learn what bait to use, technique, and the basics of fishing. There will most certainly be time for swimming between fishing! Thursday lunch will be a fish fry to wrap up the week. 

July 17- July 20- Natural Artist Camp

Time: 9 am- 2:30 pm

Location: Valley Forest School, Catawba

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $215

Natural Artist Camp is for those who want to use their artistic side- the natural way! Campers will make their own art supplies from nature, create painted masterpieces with various organic inks, dye fabric with foraged plants, learn skills to improve nature journaling with both pencils and watercolor, and more.

July 24-July 27- Appalachian Trail Trekkers Camp

Time: 9 am- 4 pm

Location: The Appalachian Trail- Hay Rock, Tinker Cliffs, McAfee Knob, and Dragon's Tooth

Ages: 10-15

Cost: $230

The Appalachian Trail Trekkers Camp is for hiking enthusiasts who are already experienced hikers looking to push their limits by hiking 4 of the top AT destinations local to the Roanoke area totaling 27.3 miles in a 4 day span. These students will complete the "AT Triple Crown".
